Long Beach Assemblyman wants ports to receive portion of cap-and-trade funds

Assemblyman Patrick O'Donnell, D-Long Beach, introduced legislation Wednesday that he hopes brings more money to the local ports to help reduce pollution.

AB 1657 would dedicate state cap-and-trade revenue to green and energy-efficient projects – including infrastructure upgrades – at the Port of Long Beach and Port of Los Angeles.

In a statement, O'Donnell said the twin port complex, the nation's largest, was cited by the Southern California Air Quality Management District as the single largest source of air pollution in the region.
