Sees Long Beach College Promise as a Model to Ensure Student Success Statewide
(SACRAMENTO) – Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D – Long Beach) is working to bring the Long Beach College Promise Program across the state to ensure student success in higher education. The Assemblymember has secured $15 million in the proposed 2016-17 state budget that would fund incentive grants for The California College Promise. The focus of this program centers on incentivizing partnerships between local school districts and higher education institutions, similar to the joint commitment between the Long Beach Unified School District, Long Beach City College and Cal State Long Beach.
“The Long Beach College Promise has been lauded as a model program and is proof that when schools and college campuses work together, higher education enrollment increases and graduation rates improve,” said Assemblymember O’Donnell, Chair of the Assembly Education Committee. “The California College Promise will ensure districts across the state have the resources to create similar pathways to higher education.”
Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell represents the 70th Assembly District, which includes Long Beach, Signal Hill, San Pedro and Catalina Island.
