Chair of Assembly Education Committee calls for increased funding for schools
(SACRAMENTO) – Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D – Long Beach) issued the following statement Thursday in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s revised budget proposal for the 2019-20 fiscal year:
“The Governor’s revised budget takes a balanced approach that increases the state’s rainy day fund while increasing funding for schools. I share his perspective that California must pay down debt and live within its means.
“As a parent, a teacher, and Chair of the Assembly Education Committee, I applaud the Governor for understanding the importance of education. The future of the state’s economy depends on the success of our students. We must do more.
“The increase of funds for clean trucks and freight equipment is extremely important. Investing in these technologies will go a long way towards greening our ports.
“Our local governments have worked hard to address homelessness in our communities. The Governor wisely increases funds to local governments to determine communities’ needs.
“I look forward to working with the Legislature to augment these efforts while passing a responsible budget that maintains a healthy reserve and pays down debt.”
Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell represents the 70th Assembly District, which includes Long Beach, Signal Hill, San Pedro and Catalina Island.
