Chair of Assembly Education Committee lauds increased investments for schools and budget reserves

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D-Long Beach) issued the following statement in response to Governor Newsom signing the 2019-2020 budget:

“Today’s budget represents a commitment to our student’s success and the future of our state’s economy. It provides more money for education while also paying down debt and living within our means.

“As a parent, a teacher, and Chair of the Assembly Education Committee, I applaud the Governor for addressing our teacher shortage, increasing funding for afterschool programs and increasing slots for our higher education students.

“This budget strengthens our ability to navigate economic downturns by building up our state’s rainy day fund and paying down long-term debt. I look forward to working with the Governor and with colleagues in the Legislature to continue prioritizing the needs of our students.”

Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell represents the 70th Assembly District, which includes Long Beach, Signal Hill, San Pedro and Catalina Island.
