O’Donnell Charter School Reform Bill Signed By the Governor
AB 1505 Will Strengthen Accountability and Oversight of Charter Schools
Sacramento - Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D-Long Beach) issued the following statement in response to Governor Newsom signing Assembly Bill 1505:
“AB 1505 is a long overdue reform of the state’s charter school law.
As the Chair of the Assembly Education Committee, I am proud of what we accomplished for students. This bill ensures that we will have qualified teachers in all classrooms and gives local school boards more discretion over charter authorization.
More work needs to be done to hold bad actors accountable. I look forward to continuing conversations on how we can best protect our schools, students and our public dollars.
Thank you to the Governor for his leadership and the stakeholders for their hard work to ensure student success and taxpayer accountability.”
Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell represents the 70th Assembly District, which includes Long Beach, Signal Hill, San Pedro and Catalina Island.
