Chair of Assembly Education Committee Supportive of Statewide Guidelines

(Sacramento) - Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D - Long Beach) issued the following statement in support of the Governor’s guidelines on reopening schools for the 2020-21 school year.

“In-classroom instruction is best for students and my preference, but student safety should be our first priority,” said Assemblymember O’Donnell, Chair of the Assembly Education Committee. “I support the Governor’s guidelines to protect students, school staff and our communities while requiring instruction to be rigorous, whether in the classroom or online.”

Today, the Governor issued guidelines that will require most schools to remain closed at the start of the school year due to recent spike in positive COVID-19 cases. Those that do reopen must require masks for students in grades 3 - 12, and COVID-19 testing and social distancing for school staff.
