Chair of Assembly Education Committee Praises District Leadership for Developing Model to Reopen Schools

(Sacramento) - Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D - Long Beach) issued the following statement in response to the Los Angeles Unified School District’s (LAUSD) newly announced COVID-19 testing and contact tracing efforts.

“I applaud LAUSD, Superintendent Austin Beutner, and their partners for their leadership and historic efforts to get our students back to school safely,” said Assemblymember O’Donnell, Chair of the Assembly Education Committee. “As a teacher, I know firsthand that nothing can replace learning from a teacher in the classroom. Providing testing and contact tracing increases the confidence to open schools. I fully support LAUSD’s proposal, which could become a model for other school communities across the state and nation. Our students can get back to some sense of normalcy and focus on learning with the success of this initiative.”

Today, LAUSD announced a new district wide COVID-19 testing and contact tracing initiative to serve the school community. Testing and tracing will be provided for school staff, students and family members of those who test positive.
