O’Donnell Championed “Center to Close the Opportunity Gap” Launches
Center Will Focus on Closing the Achievement Gap among Students in K-12 Schools
(LONG BEACH) – Today, Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D – Long Beach) and California State University (CSU) celebrated the virtual opening of the CSU Center to Close the Opportunity Gap, housed at CSU Long Beach.
“We must ensure educators have the tools to tackle the gaps in educational achievement among students,” said Assemblymember O’Donnell, Chair of the Assembly Education Committee. “I am excited to help launch the CSU Center to Close the Opportunity Gap, which will be a one-stop shop where a teacher, a school district, or a teacher education program can easily find information and share best practices.”
Assemblymember O’Donnell championed the Center’s establishment through the introduction of Assembly Bill 1173 and secured its funding last year through a one-time state allocation of $3 million.
“Congratulations to everyone at CSU Long Beach for putting together a great plan that includes collaboration with K-12 and higher education institutions throughout the state,” Assemblymember O’Donnell said. “I am proud that my alma mater’s School of Education has been selected as the host site.”
