Chair of Assembly Education Committee Urges Congress to Defend DACA

Tuesday, September 5, 2017

(SACRAMENTO) – In response to President Trump’s announcement to end the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) on Tuesday, Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D-Long Beach) issued the following statement:

“As a teacher and as Chair of the Assembly Education Committee, I stand with the thousands of young people protected by DACA who deserve a safe home where they can study, work, and build bright futures. I am extremely disappointed by the current administration’s announcement to end DACA. The individuals protected by the program should not be pulled from their home – for many, the only home they’ve ever known. I call on Congress to come together to preserve the protections granted by DACA before the full effects of this decision are felt. ”

Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell represents the 70th Assembly District which includes Long Beach, Signal Hill, San Pedro and Catalina Island.
