Pet Rescue and Adoption Act Passes the State Assembly

(Sacramento) - Assembly Bill 485, a bill to halt the sale of pets from inhumane puppy and kitten mills by Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D – Long Beach) has passed the State Assembly.  AB 485 requires all dogs, cats, and rabbits offered for retail sale in California pet stores to be obtained by an animal shelter or non-profit rescue organization. “With the passage of AB 485, we are one step closer to ensuring that dogs, cats and rabbits in shelters are able to find forever homes,” said Assemblymember O’Donnell. A similar ordinance was put in place in the City of Los Angeles in 2012.
